Solvitur Ambulando

Sunset Lodge has dedicated itself to Masonic Education through the formation of Solvitur Ambulando, a Masonic, Philosophical and General Interest Study Society.

Solvitur Ambulando translates as “It is Solved by Walking”, and was the motto attributed to Saint Augustine. The ritual of both Freemasonry and the Order of the Eastern Star places the emphasis on spiritual growth as being a “journey” or “traveling”.

The group has no hierarchy in terms of leadership position, although a few members are tasked with organizational duties. At our monthly meeting, members are encouraged to present papers or short talks on subjects they find to be of interest, in order that we may learn from one-another.

Membership in the society is open to members of Sunset Lodge #369 F & A M and Ocean Park Chapter #245 Order of the Eastern Star. Some of our meetings are open to the general public, while others are open only to members of the Society and invited guests.

Sunset Cinema Society is chaired by Brother Warren Lewis, an accomplished writer whose credits include Black Rain starring Michael Douglas and Andy Garcia and The 13th Warrior with Antonio Banderas and Vladimir Kulich.  Co-chairs of the Society are Brothers Vito Lappicola, Guy Churchouse III and Juan Rocha.

The society meets to screen and discuss films which have made significant contributions to the art of motion pictures, as well as organizing outings for various cinema events.
